Procedures

1. Face cleansing
2. Shaping of silicone rubber, taking in to consideration overall facial appearance and patient's request
3. Local administration of anesthetic followed by the surgery (lasting 20-40 minutes, depending on the surgery). Patient will not feel any pain during the surgery.

Post-operation Instructions

1. Abstain from alcohol, seafood, vitamins and food supplements for at least 10 days.
2. Take pills as given (3 days) and apply wax (2 days).
3. Sleep face-up with head slightly elevated. Do not sleep on your side for 10 days.
4. Do not pick your nose or insert your finger into your nostrils. Do not allow water to come into contact with nostrils for at least 10 days. Washing of face is possible with the exception of nose area (can clean using wipes or cloth).
5. 3 days after the surgery, if you desire to clean the nostrils or to remove dry blood, wet cotton bud with antiseptic alcohol (NOT water) and clean gently.
6. The suture inside the nostrils does not need to be removed: it will dissolve within a month. The suture at the nose wings requires removal by the clinic after 7 days.
7. The swelling will appear for about 3-4 days. In some cases (minority), it can last up to a week. Swelling is an expected occurrence after the surgery, after which the recovery is approximately 70%. Full recovery can be expected in 1-3 months. The area between eyebrows will be the last area to return to normal. Due to swelling, nose might appear slanted but it will appear straight once the swelling is gone.
8. Apply a cold compress - 3 times a day, 10-15 minutes each - within 48 hours after the surgery. After 48 hours, apply a hot compress 3 times a day, 10-15 minutes each time. If you are not sure how to apply or afraid that the compress will cause the silicone to dislocate to one side, there is no need for compression.

Some Common Problems Found in Patients Who Had Augmentation Rhinoplasty

1. No measuring of facial angles, resulting in unnatural nose.

2. The silicone used is too short, resulting in nose that looks shortened, ends abruptly, or disconnected (double break).

3. The silicone used is too long, resulting in extrusion or hooked nose (polybeak deformity).

4. The silicone used is too big, resulting in conspicuous silicone edges and oversized nose.

5. Inserted silicone starts at the wrong position (i.e. between eyebrows), resulting in high and unnatural nose as the 135-140 angle is disregarded.

6. Nose tip is too sharp - stemming from the misunderstanding that the silicone tip needs to be thick in order to raise the tip of the nose. The resulting problem is the sharp tip because of the pressure from the thick silicone (Tent Pole Effect) and possible extrusion in the future. In fact, to correct the flat tip, the cartilage at the tip area needs to be repaired. In some cases, grafting has to be done before inserting a thin silicone. For the most natural outcome, the original shape of the nose is enhanced by well-shaped silicone, thus guaranteeing against any future extrusion.
